This is the final album recorded by Bruddah IZ before his death in June of 1997 at the age of 38. His funeral was treated as if he were a head of state, the leader of a sovereign country, and in many ways he really was.

'N DIS LIFE continues the formula begun in FACING THE FUTURE CD #21 and E ALA E CD #22, after his relationship with De Mello... each album has a love song or two, a little pep talk for the unlucky, sadness about the rightness of sovereignty, courage to inject a little "Hawaiian-ness" into modern life, ethnic pride with toleration and responsibility, nostalgia, citizenship (a la anti-drug song track 8), a bow to the sumo wrestlers, a few more love songs, some whimsy (the FLY). I love the old standard (Hi'ilawe).

Here IZ again shows his range, his powerful voice, tender sympathies, and strong connection with "Hawaiian-ness." This album headlines IZ's own eulogy - the title song "N DIS LIFE".

This is Lee's favorite Israel Kamakawiwo`ole album and the third of his trilogy CD #21, CD #22, CD #29 that make up the real core of his solo music career (after leaving the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau). CD #53 IZ in concert has songs taped live from each of these three albums. CD #84 represents "early IZ" before the De Mello formula - without the passion, the focus, the identity.

After De Mello - Israel gained focus, showed his passion and range, and became "IZ THIS GREAT HAWAIIAN MAN"... his Hawaiian musical style culminates in N DIS LIFE CD #29. Enjoy.
